Caroline Ligi Harris
National Pasifika Engagement Advisor for the Industry Training
Organisation (ITO) ServiceIQ
Caroline is affectionately known as Ligi. She works across multiple industries in the service
sector to advance Pasifika success outcomes. Ligi has worked in education for over 20 years in
various roles as a teacher, educator, course developer, education advisor, programme manager
and leader of community initiated programs. Her talents lie in thinking creatively outside the
box and initiating new and innovative programmes for diverse people groups. Ligi was recently
appointed a member of the Democratic Advisory for Pacific People to the Auckland Council. She
is also trustee for COMET, a council-controlled organisation that aims to advance education in
AND the city by supporting and connecting education initiatives in the Auckland region.
Iani Nemani
Manager Māori & Pasifika, CompeteNZ
Iani is the Māori and Pasifika Manager for CompeteNZ and is charged with increasing Māori
and Pasifika participation in trades training. Prior to taking up a role with CompeteNZ he spent
20 years working across social work, community and economic development on the ground,
and in local and in central government policy settings. Iani says his Ingilisi is okay, but his
maths is really good because he is 100% Tongan.

Dr Elana Taipapaki Curtis
(Te Arawa) Public Health Physician, Senior Lecturer and Director
Vision 20:20, Te Kupenga Hauora Māori, University of Auckland
Elana provides academic leadership of Hikitia Te Ora – Certificate in Health Sciences (bridging/
foundation education), the Māori and Pacific Admission Scheme (admission and retention
support) and the Whakapiki Ake Project (Māori recruitment). She has recently completed her
Doctorate of Medicine (MD) focused on indigenous health workforce development and she
has been involved in Kaupapa Māori Research investigating indigenous and ethnic inequities
within tertiary and health care contexts including: breast cancer, cardiovascular disease and
emergency department care.

Lisale Falema’a
Senior Advisor, TEC
Lisale is an established professional with over 12 years working in the public sector. His
roles have included providing expertise to inform high-quality advice on improving educational
outcomes for learners, families and communities. He is leading the development and
implementation of TEC’s Pasifika Operational Strategy 2017-2020 which looks to accelerate
the improvement of Pasifika learner outcomes in the tertiary education system.
